To use one word to summarise my first 6 months with Ryan & Crowley, I would choose hands –on. Right from the off, I was working on a set of partnership accounts. What appeared daunting at the beginning soon turned into an enjoyable challenge. The informal management structure afforded me help at all levels from management to trainees further on in their contract.
The next few months were spent learning the basis of accounts. From file set up to processing I gained a high level of knowledge for the work that underpins accounts preparation. After the second month I began to take the accounts I was working on much further and also enjoyed my first audit on an insurance company.
As I write this now, I am nearing the end of my sixth month and am about to send my first 3 sets of accounts (sole trader, partnership and limited company) in for review. The work involved with Ryan & Crowley and the on-the-job training provided has enabled me to fully understand most facets of accounts preparation, and all this after just 6 months.
